TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Council on Community-Based Partnerships invites University and community partners to its third annual Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 1, at noon in the Hotel Capstone ballroom.

Outstanding community engagement projects by faculty, staff, students and community members will be recognized at the event.

Keynote speaker will be Dr. Hiram E. Fitzgerald, vice president of Outreach and Engagement at Michigan State University and president of the National Outreach Scholarship Partnership — of which UA is one of only nine members.

Starting at 11 a.m. before the luncheon, award winners and seed-funding recipients will present poster displays of their work.

“Join us as we celebrate the best work in the dynamic area of engagement scholarship,” says Dr. Samory T. Pruitt, vice president for Community Affairs at UA and executive director of the CCBP.

Pruitt and others will review successes in engagement scholarship over the past year that include publication of the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship, recognition of the University’s Carnegie Community Engagement designation, and other achievements in 2008-2009.

Awards will be made for top faculty/staff initiated project, best student-initiated project, best community-initiated project, distinguished achievement-campus and distinguished achievement-community.

The event is open to the public, but attendees must reserve a free seat by contacting Nancy Bohannon at nancy.bohannon@ua.edu.
