UA’s Frozen Tide Hockey Team to Compete in Championship

alafrozentideTUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Frozen Tide Hockey Team will compete in the 2009 Southeastern Hockey Conference Championship, beginning on Feb. 27 at the Pelham Civic Complex.

Bama Hockey began during the 2005/2006 season. The Frozen Tide competes in Division III of the American College Hockey Association. The UA team practices and competes at the Pelham Civic Complex.

The Pelham Civic Complex will be hosting the first Southeastern Hockey Conference Championship where teams from eight universities — including UA — will compete for the conference title. UA Club Sports, part of University Recreation, is one of the sponsoring agencies for the event.

The following is the schedule for the first round based on East vs. West Divisions:

Friday, Feb 27: Noon – Tennessee vs. Miss. State
3 p.m. South Carolina vs. LSU
6:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies
7 p.m. Alabama vs. Florida
10 p.m. Arkansas vs. Georgia

The second round bracket seeding will be based on ACHA rankings:

Saturday, Feb. 28: Noon – 3rd highest ranked losing team vs. 4th highest ranked losing team for 7th place in the conference.
3 p.m. – Highest ranked losing team vs. 2nd highest ranked team for 5th place in the conference.
7 p.m. – Highest ranked winning team vs. 4th highest ranked team
10 p.m. – 2nd highest ranked winning team vs. 3rd highest ranked winning team.

The third round:

Sunday, March 1: 11:30 a.m. – Consolation game for 3rd place in conference
2 p.m. – Championship game

Ticket to the game will be available for pre-sale as well as at the Civic Complex for $10 per day or $25 for a tournament pass.
