University Libraries to Celebrate Composer’s 200th Birthday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University Libraries will host a concert in honor of Felix Mendelssohn’s 200th birthday in the J. Wray and Joan Billingsley Pearce Foyer on the second floor of Gorgas Library, Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 2- 4 p.m. on The University of Alabama campus.

Mendelssohn was born on Feb. 3, 1809.

Faculty and students from the UA School of Music and department of theatre and dance will perform selections of Mendelssohn’s music. Highlights include the Piano Trio in C minor; Opus 66; the first movement of the Octet; Opus 20; arias from the oratorios “Elijah” and “Saint Paul” and excerpts from the music for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The concert is free and open to the public. Birthday cake will be served.
