A new student organization called Literacy is The Edge has been started at The University of Alabama with the goal of improving literacy rates in West Alabama.

Scientists Seek Ways to Spare 12 Fish Species from Extinction, UA Researcher Chairs Southeastern Council Evaluating ‘Desperate Dozen’

If letter grades were assigned for freshwater biodiversity, the southeastern United States would receive “straight A’s” every year. There are more than 675 species of fish living here, which is more than half of the total number of species found in the rest of the nation. Unfortunately, one-quarter of the region’s fish species are now considered imperiled.

UA Engineering Students Compete in Design Project

Freshmen engineering students at The University of Alabama will compete in an annual design project on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 at the University Church of Christ gymnasium. The competition will test their ability to design a model airplane launcher and payload delivery system capable of transporting three ounces of play dough to a target.

UA Women’s Resource Center to Host Harbor Training

The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center will hold a Harbor training session on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 1:30-3 p.m. at the Ferguson Forum.

UA Engineering Professor Named Society of Women Engineers Outstanding Faculty Advisor

Dr. Beth Todd, associate professor of mechanical engineering at The University of Alabama, was recently named the Society of Women Engineers 2008 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award recipient.
