The Ferguson Center will have special operating hours for the fall break. Hours of operation will be 7 a.m.-midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 9-11, and 10 a.m.-midnight on Sunday, Oct. 12.

Study participants are needed to help researchers better understand the relationship between college students and their thoughts, feelings and behaviors about religion and spirituality. Get on board the Entertainment Bus Route. Crimson Ride buses will service the downtown area Thursday and Saturday nights from 10 p.m.–3 a.m. and Fridays from 10 p.m.–4 a.m. Cost is $2 (Bama Cash only) one way. UA students are allowed to bring up to two guests for whom they are responsible. Alcohol is not allowed on the bus.

Donate your unused football tickets and win prizes! Those who donate will have a chance to win one of these great prizes: A-Day tickets to the Zone, a football autographed by Coach Nick Saban and UA bowl game tickets. If you are not going to the game, please do not let your ticket go to waste. Let your fellow students share the tradition.

Financial management practices of college students. Students over the age of 19 interested in participating in a research study of financial behavior should click here to assist the University in understanding how financial education has an impact on your outlook and behavior.

A limited number of South ten Hoor reserved parking permits ($350) are for sale or exchange while supplies last. Commuter West or Commuter Northeast permits will not be available for sale or exchange this semester. CBS iReport Film Festival: Campaign 2008. Submit your short films from the campaign trail to win an HD camera and a chance to travel to the Presidential Inauguration. Films can cover anything from a specific topic or candidate you are passionate about to a behind-the-scenes look at a campaign or grassroots political organization. The African American Studies Program will present its View and Chat Film Series this semester. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend one Wednesday each month and enjoy a film, food and conversation. The next film will be Black Girl, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in 116 ten Hoor.

Creative Leaps International will present a free concert, “Unless the Mind Catch Fire … A Concert of Ideas,” Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building. Also, Creative Leaps will host a series of workshops from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 14. Registration is required and seating is limited for these free workshops. Dr. Cornel West, best-selling author of Race Matters, will give the Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Lecture on “Ethics and Morality” Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. in Morgan Auditorium. The lecture is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences, African American Studies Program, Community Affairs Office, department of political science, College of Communication and Information Sciences, New College, Summersell Center for the Study of the South, department of religious studies, department of American studies, Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. President F.W. de Klerk, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who helped bring majority rule to South Africa, will speak at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17 at the Bryant Conference Center. De Klerk will deliver the 2008 Frank A. Nix Lecture, a program of UA’s Blackburn Institute. The lecture, titled “Bridging the Gap: Globalization Without Isolation,” is free and open to the public.

Scholarship applications are now being accepted for adult students and students facilitating their degree through the College of Continuing Studies. The deadline for applications is Dec. 15. The 2nd Annual Sales Opportunity Fair will be held Oct. 15–17 in the Ferguson Center. Grad School Night at the Rec will be Oct. 17 from 7–11 p.m. University Recreation and Graduate Student Services are partnering to co-sponsor this event. 24-hour library access is now available at Rodgers Library. The library will remain open from Sunday at 1 p.m. until Friday at 2 a.m. After midnight, only students, faculty and staff are allowed to enter and remain inside the building. All individuals must have a valid Action card with proximity card technology.

The College of Commerce and Business Administration will host “Internships and Opportunities” Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. in Alston Hall Parlor, 4th floor. EVENTS, ARTS, & CULTURE

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and the Office of Information Technology wants you to remember that cyber safety is personal. OIT has provided an informational Web site and has scheduled a week of speakers to provide cyber safety tips. Door prizes will be awarded at all events.

Phi Delta Theta fraternity and Chi Omega sorority will co-host the second annual Make-A-Wish cookout on Thursday, Oct. 16 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on the front lawn of the Phi Delta Theta house. Tickets are $5 and will include a hamburger, chips, a drink and a cookie. Also, there will be live entertainment. More information or tickets: Nick Lambert.

UA Outdoor Recreation will offer an Ellicott Backpacking/Yoga trip Oct. 9–12 in Ellicott Rock Wilderness. Take the weekend to go backpack in the great rock wilderness of North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina mountains. “What does the current credit crisis mean to you?” will be held Oct. 13 from 7–9 p.m. in 30 Alston Hall. Following a brief overview of how the United States arrived at its current financial situation, a panel of faculty members will discuss the practical impact that this crisis will have on the UA student body. YoUA Decide: A Look at the Media’s Role in the 2008 Election. The Capstone Association of Black Journalists and the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will present a panel discussion concerning the media’s influence during the current political election on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in 210 Bidgood. Panelists will state their observations and perspectives concerning the issue and answer questions presented by the moderators and the general audience. More information: Danielle Blevins.

The Miss Corolla Pageant will be held Nov. 14. All female UA students are eligible to compete. The queen will receive a $150 book scholarship from the SUPe Store and more.
