Meeting Set for Miss UA Program

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Students who would like to participate in the Miss University of Alabama program are invited to a candidate interest meeting on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. in Alumni Hall.

The student named 2009 Miss UA will receive a full tuition scholarship, two book scholarships and other gifts for her year of service to the University.

The Miss UA program is a preliminary contest for the Miss Alabama pageant and the Miss America program. For 35 years, the Miss UA pageant has had a strong tradition of providing representation of the University by a student active in the community who is a role model to her peers and others across the state.

“I grew up watching young women compete in the Miss Alabama system. Miss University of Alabama was a dream of mine. I can think of no greater honor than to serve a school and community that has been such a great part of my entire life,” said Miss UA 2008 Meri-Glenn Freeman.

Freeman added that students considering competing would not be disappointed. “The entire experience is beyond anything you could ever imagine. The women in the Miss Alabama system who compete in Miss UA are among the best and brightest in our state. The memories you make and the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.”
