UA’s Everywoman Book Club to Feature Guest Poet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Everywoman Book Club, sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center at The University of Alabama, will meet on Thursday, April 24, at noon in The Globe Restaurant with special guest Theresa Pappas, a poet who will read a selection of her work.

In celebration of National Poetry Month, everyone is invited to bring and share one or two of their favorite poems with brief author information and why the poem is meaningful to them.

Pappas was born and raised in Baltimore. In 2005, WordTech Editions published her second collection of poems, “The Desert Art.” Her first book “Flash Paper” won the Minnesota Voices Project Competition and was published by New Rivers Press. Her work has received literary awards from the Iowa Arts Council, Iowa Woman magazine, the Florida Poetry Contest and she has twice received fellowships from the MacDowell Colony.

Her poems have appeared in Carolina Quarterly, Black Warrior Review, Poetry East, The Antioch Review as well as other journals. She has taught at Tufts University and Iowa State University and worked as a visiting writer at schools in Alabama and Iowa. Her articles about local Tuscaloosa artists and arts organizations appear in Jubilation Magazine.
