EVENTS, ARTS & CULTURE

University Programs will host movies and free food on the Quad at sundown every Sunday in April. “I Am Legend” will be shown April 27. More information: Rachel E. Kelly at 348-7525.

Take Back the Night will be April 22 at 6 p.m. in front of Denny Chimes. Speak out against sexual assault at this rally/march and enjoy music, poetry, speakers and empowerment. More information: Stacy Panitch at 348-5040.

Stress Free Daze “Recess on the Quad” will be April 23, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Enjoy free pizza and BBQ and inflatable rides. Also, have fun with art, planting flowers, bath salts, and kite flying. Free music will be provided by WVUA. More information: Jen Turner at 348-3863.

The College of Engineering Does Amateur Radical Theatre hosts dessert and a show with “Welcome to Bedside Manor” April 25-27 at 7 p.m. in 126 H.M. Comer. Tickets: $8 and available at the CrimsonArts box office and at the door.

The third annual AL’s Award Show will be May 1, 7:30-10 p.m., Morgan Auditorium. The night will honor some of the best and brightest performers, artists, actors, musicians, writers, and directors on campus. Tickets: $5 at www.crimsonartstickets.com. More information: Creative Campus at 348-7889.

The McLure Education Library book stacks will not be accessible this summer because of renovation. The School Library and Curriculum Materials will continue to be available all summer, and many journals continue to be available electronically. Requests for materials that have been removed will be filled by a rush ILL or a rush purchase, depending on the item. More information: Helga Visscher at 348-1507.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Help Bury Mike’s Wheelchair. MGT 420 students are trying to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries and raise money for their peer Mike Parker to get a truck. This week, they will be selling bracelets with the phrase “Bury Mike’s Wheelchair” for $2 each in 100 and 105 Alston Hall. More information: http://www.spinalcordawareness.com.

Phi Delta Theta Fraternity will host the Walk to Defeat ALS on May 3 at 11 a.m. on the Quad. The event’s primary goal is to raise money and awareness of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. More information: Nick Blanchard.

The Quad entrance to Gorgas Library will be closed due to repairs and renovations taking place in the second floor lobby. The Capstone Drive entrance will remain open throughout the renovation process. Renovations are expected to be completed by late summer 2008. More information: Harriet Deason at 348-5540.

The Alabama Forensics Council Individual Events Team will hold open auditions for new members May 2 from 2-6 p.m. in 226 Reese Phifer. This program offers intercollegiate competition in 11 different events: informative speaking, persuasive speaking, after-dinner speaking, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, communication analysis, prose interpretation, poetry interpretation, dramatic interpretation, dramatic duo interpretation, and program oral interpretation.
