TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — One Night Only Gallery, located in Tuscaloosa at 2119 University Blvd., will host “Digital Art Show: A Showcase of Contemporary Electronic Art” by University of Alabama students on Thursday, April 24, at 5 p.m.
The show will feature digital art created by UA students who have a major or minor in studio art with an emphasis in digital media or graphic design. Artists can submit as many pieces as they wish. Art department faculty will judge what pieces are admitted into the show. All work in the show will be on sale.
The Digital Art Show was created and organized by UA studio art majors Jeremy Rich, a senior from Stevenson, and Paige Poiroux, a junior from Mobile.
Rich said that the idea for the art show came from observing how individuals view digital art. “In my mind, the reason for this show is to let people know that artwork done through a computer or other digital means can be seen as art as well,” he said. “It’s kind of like what photography went through before it became an art.”
Rich also said that he feels art can mean anything that expresses one’s views and thoughts.
“I believe anyone can be an artist. Art means putting yourself into your work and showing people your thoughts, yourself, or just the way you see the world. In the end, I hope that we can get people more aware that there is a good bit of artistry in the digital area and that we can show off the talent that we have.”
