UA Panhellenic Association Gains Two New Sororities

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Panhellenic Association is welcoming two sororities to campus. Alpha Phi Sorority will colonize this fall and Delta Gamma Sorority will colonize in fall 2010.

“It is an exciting time to be Greek at UA,” said Erin Cornelius, president of the UA Panhellenic Association. “The UA Panhellenic community is excited to welcome the new sororities to campus. We know that both organizations will be extremely successful.”

Alpha Phi Sorority was established in 1872 at Syracuse University in NewYork. The sorority established a chapter at UA in 1932 that closed in 1963.

“Alpha Phi is thrilled to re-colonize the chapter at UA. We continue to be impressed with the quality of the sorority experience in Tuscaloosa and cannot wait to welcome Alabama women into our sisterhood,” said Megan Bouche, the associate director of marketing and extension for Alpha Phi.

“Today, the Alabama sorority community fosters a spirit of sisterhood and partnership that will allow a new chapter to flourish. The support we received from the sorority community thus far has been amazing, and we look forward to growing our relationship with them as we become a part of the UA Panhellenic system,” Bouche added.

Delta Gamma sorority was established in 1873 at the Lewis School for Girls outside of Oxford, Miss. The sorority established a chapter at UA in 1947 that closed in 1978.

Pam Jamieson, the vice president of membership for Delta Gamma, said, “Delta Gamma is honored to be chosen to re-colonize at UA. With recruitment numbers continuing to rise, and with an increase in enrollment from all parts of the United States, it’s an appealing environment for us. We are already preparing to come onto campus strong in fall 2010.”

“We are excited about maintaining the momentum of expansion on the campus through the next two years. Our alumnae are already working for a big success,” said Shaun Young, director of expansion for Delta Gamma.
