The University of Alabama honored its top students of 2006-2007 for their academic achievement and leadership Friday, April 6 during the Tappings and Awards Ceremony, the highlight of UA’s annual Honors Week, April 2-6.
The University of Alabama’s Crimson GRITS (Girls Racing in the South) will soon be tackling tough terrain and conquering water challenges as they compete in the 2007 Society of Automotive Engineers Mini-Baja Competition from April 12-15 in Ocala, Fla.
Dr. Matt Curtner-Smith, professor of kinesiology and department head at The University of Alabama’s College of Education, was recently appointed as a Fellow into the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Aaron Vold has been appointed director of development for The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences. In this role, Vold will lead the College’s fund-raising efforts for the “Our Students. Our Future.” campaign and cultivate, solicit and steward gifts to the College. He held a similar position at UA’s Capstone College of Nursing, where he served as director of advancement.
Activities for M.B.A. Week 2007 include a golf tournament at The North River Yacht Club, a professional development wine tasting at The University Club, a paintball tournament, a “Texas hold ’em” poker tournament and several luncheons.
Dr. Margaret Levi, 2007 Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, will give a public lecture at The University of Alabama Monday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library. Her topic will be “Achieving good government – and maybe legitimacy.”
Dr. Ellen Csikai, associate professor of social work at The University of Alabama, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the University of Debrecen in Hungary during the 2007-08 academic year, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Advanced nursing degrees are within easier reach for local registered nurses practicing at Trinity Medical Center thanks to a new Internet-based partnership between the hospital and The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing.
Acclaimed author Vinita Hampton Wright will give a reading from her most recent novel, “Dwelling Places,” on Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Morgan Auditorium on The University of Alabama campus.
