New Book Makes Excellent Gift for UA Alums, Tide Fans

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Looking for an elegant and unusual gift for University of Alabama graduates and other Crimson Tide fans on your list? Crimson, the official keepsake book of The University of Alabama, is available for the first time this holiday season.

The coffee-table book, an evocative ode to The University of Alabama, features more than 200 color photographs and reminiscences from some of the University’s most famous alumni.

Created by internationally known photographer Chip Cooper and published by The Booksmith Group of Nashville, Tenn., the book includes contributions from well-known alumni including former Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr, actress Sela Ward, Forrest Gump author Winston Groom and astronaut Col. James Kelly.

Cooper, a UA graduate and the University’s director of photography for more than two decades, asked seven other UA photographers to join the project. The result is a window into the beauty and traditions of the University.

Cooper says Crimson honors the achievements, traditions and beauty of the UA campus. “I tried to show all aspects of the campus so that there would be something for everyone,” he said. “This book will tug at the heartstrings of our alumni. It will be almost like coming home, coming back to campus, when they turn the pages.”

Two editions of the book are available — the standard version for $60 and a special limited edition for $125. Part of the proceeds will fund scholarships at UA. For ordering information, call 866/518-5244 or visit http://ua.thebooksmithgroup.com/.
