High School Journalism Students Invited to Register for Regional ASPA Workshops

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Scholastic Press Association is seeking participants for their fall regional workshops to be held Aug. 27-29.

Newspaper, yearbook, literary magazine and broadcast tracks will address the latest trends for writers, photographers, designers and producers of school media.

Advisers from the Alabama Scholastic Press Association, known as ASPA, will host the meetings at Auburn University’s Foy Student Union Aug. 27; at The University of Alabama Ferguson Center Aug. 28; and at the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s University Center Aug. 29.

The University of Alabama’s journalism department facilitates the activities of ASPA, an organization of about 100 scholastic media outlets who participate in fall, spring and summer workshops. Jennifer Greer, recently appointed chair of journalism, is enthusiastic about the department’s ongoing partnership with advisers.

“I can’t imagine anyone who attends these workshops not being fired up when they return to their schools,” Greer said. “The ASPA leadership has brought together an excellent group of speakers and instructors who will teach, coach and inspire student journalists and their advisers.”
