TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Action Card and director of the UA card program have been recognized recently with two national awards.
Blackboard Inc., a leading provider of enterprise technology to the education industry, awarded UA the 2007 Greenhouse Award for Exemplary Campus Services, citing the UA Action Card as an integral part of the campus community, with more than 500 campus card readers processing 6 million transactions annually.
The UA Action Card is used for campus vending, on- and off-campus dining, laundry, library and lab verification, printing and copying, and facility/event access for athletics, campus recreation, housing and residential communities.
Award submissions were judged by a panel of academic leaders in campus services, including previous award winners. UA will receive $5,000 as a recipient of the 2007 Greenhouse Award; Duke University was the other school to receive the award this year.
In another honor, the 2007 National Association of Campus Card Users-PERSONA Professional Development Award was presented to UA staff member Jeanine Brooks, who has served as Action Card director for UA’s identification and debit card program from its beginning more than 12 years ago.
Brooks is also a member of the NACCU Board of Directors and has been active in the professional organization as a presenter, committee chair, mentor and in other capacities.
In 2005, Brooks was awarded UA’s Virgil Parks McKinley Employee Award recognizing enterprising employees who contribute to UA’s mission of teaching, research and service. Under her leadership, the Action Card office has received a number of honors and in 2000 the Action Card Office was awarded UA’s Sam S. May Commitment to Service Award, recognizing teams who have demonstrated exceptional customer service. In 2003 and 2004, the office won the NACCU Best Marketing Award, and in 2004 received the Best Card Design.
Brooks is the 8th recipient of the NACCU-PERSONA Award, presented each year at the organization’s annual conference to recognize individuals who have contributed significantly to the card services industry.
