Poet, Author to Give Readings as Part of UA’s Bankhead Visiting Writers Series

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Poets Quan Barry and Lisa Jarnot will give a joint reading Thursday, Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in 205 Smith Hall on The University of Alabama campus, as part of the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series.

Jarnot is the author of three full-length collections of poetry, and she recently completed a novel. Her biography of the San Francisco poet Robert Duncan is forthcoming. She has edited two small magazines as well as “The Poetry Project Newsletter” and “An Anthology of New (American) Poetry.” She teaches at Naropa University’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and at Brooklyn College, and she has given lectures and readings throughout the United States and Europe. She lives in New York City.

Barry has published two books of poetry and is an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the recipient of the Agnes Lynch Starrett Prize and 2003 Pushcart Prize and has received fellowships from Stanford University, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Wisconsin Arts Board and the National Endowment of the Arts.

The readings are free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
