UA Muslim Student Association to Sponsor Panel Discussion on Islam

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Muslim Student Association is sponsoring a panel discussion on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 7-9 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library to discuss “Islam and the West: A Clash of Misperceptions.”

The panel will feature MSA member Sadoq Damrah, scientist and writer Mirza Beg, Tuscaloosa News editor Doug Ray and Rev. Ken Smith of UA Campus Ministries. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Fran Oneal, UA International Honors Program director.

The panel will welcome discussion of and questions about Islam, Muslims’ beliefs and practices, terrorism, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the effect of the media on the public’s perceptions and misperceptions.

The panelists will open with brief comments about the current state of relations between Islamic and Western nations, and then will accept questions from the audience

The event is open to the students, faculty and the community.

Following the panel discussion, an assortment of appetizers featuring international recipes will be served.
