TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance presents “The Pillowman” Oct. 10-13 and Oct. 15, in the Allen Bales Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. In lieu of a Saturday evening performance, there will be two shows on Sunday, one at 2 pm and one at 7:30 p.m. All tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall noon-5 p.m., or by calling 205/348-3400.
“The Pillowman” is a disturbing, but darkly funny, comedy/drama. It takes place in a totalitarian state, where a storyteller is harshly interrogated because macabre fairy tales bare an eerie resemblance to a series of grisly murders taking place. “The Pillowman” was nominated for Broadway’s Tony Award for Best New Play in 2005. It is for mature audiences only; Parental discretion is advised.
The department of theatre and dance is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
