Retired CEO of Mirant to Speak with UA Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Marce Fuller, once ranked fifth in Fortune magazine’s list of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, will speak with University of Alabama students Monday, Oct. 30.

Fuller’s presentation continues the College of Engineering’s Dean’s Leadership Series: “So, You Want to be a CEO,” which brings prominent business leaders to speak with students at UA. Fuller’s lecture begins at 3 p.m. in Shelby Hall, Room 151. It is open to the public.

Fuller is the retired chief executive officer of Mirant, a prominent producer of cost efficient electricity in the United States, the Philippines and the Caribbean. In the United States, Mirant supplies power generation from 24 power plants strategically located in highly populated areas. They also support commercial operations that support power generation plants.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from The University of Alabama, Fuller began working for General Electric Co. as an application engineer. In 1994, she received her master’s degree in power system engineering from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.

Fuller was named a UA College of Engineering Distinguished Engineering Fellow in 2004. She now serves as a member of UA’s College of Engineering Leadership Board.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering has about 1,900 students and more than 95 faculty. It has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
