UA Capstone Engineering Society to Sponsor Golf Tournament

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Greater Birmingham Chapter of the Capstone Engineering Society of The University of Alabama College of Engineering will hold the sixth annual CES Golf Tournament Thursday, May 4, at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer with registration beginning at 11 a.m.

The tournament is open to UA College of Engineering alumni, as well as the general public. The format will be a modified four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at the event. Players will have a chance to win a vehicle from Royal GMC, the hole-in-one sponsor.

John Croyle, a former UA football star and founder of the Big Oak Ranch, a Christian home for children needing a chance, will be the guest speaker at the tournament.

Participation cost is $125 per player or $500 for a team of four. Registration includes green fees, cart, range balls, beverages, meals and a souvenir shirt. Individuals or twosomes are welcome and will be placed with a team.

Individuals or companies can sponsor portions of the tournament and receive signage, scoreboard recognition, and recognition in the Capstone Engineer, the College of Engineering alumni magazine. Corporate sponsorship levels are as follows:

• Ace: $2,500 – Ace level will be recognized for sponsoring a meal.
• Eagle: $1,000 – Eagle level will be recognized for sponsoring trophies, door prizes, or silent auction items.
• Birdie: $300 – Birdie level receives signage on a hole and on the scoreboards at the tournament.

Proceeds of the golf tournament benefit scholarships for University of Alabama engineering and computer science students.

The Capstone Engineering Society, established in 1973, is the alumni society of the College of Engineering. CES is dedicated to maintaining relationships and sharing resources with UA engineering alumni to ensure that the College is able to provide UA engineering and computer science students with a superior educational experience.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering has about 1,800 students and more than 95 faculty. It has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
