Students Take a Look at UA Through the 100 Lenses Project

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Crossroads Community Center will host a reception on Tuesday, April 18 from 3-4:30 p.m. to showcase a photographic mural created by UA students in the 100 Lenses Project . The event will be at the Crossroads Center in 232 Ferguson Center.

Disposable cameras were given to 100 UA students (from various backgrounds and campus affiliations) and used by the students to take honest pictures representing campus life as they saw it. The pictures were developed at no cost, and were selected and artistically placed on a large mural that will travel around campus.

The project used what is known as the “photo voice method” using photographs taken by amateurs to visually depict their daily experiences. The 100 Lenses Project will help the Crossroads Community Center understand campus culture through the eyes of students from different backgrounds.

The UA Crossroads Community Center provides campus leadership and oversight in the areas of cultural programming and intercultural education. Crossroads seeks to:

• facilitate relationship building across cultures through innovative programs and initiatives
• serve as a resource for students and student organizations regarding cross-cultural issues
• provide leadership and coordination for professionals in multicultural student affairs roles, and
• prepare students for demographic shifts and a global society.

The event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
