TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A philosopher and authority on Aristotle will give a talk entitled “Aristotle’s Philosophy of Belief” at The University of Alabama Wednesday, March 8, at 3:30 p.m. in 259 ten Hoor Hall.
Dr. Fred Miller, professor and executive director of the Social Philosophy and Policy Center and professor at Bowling Green State University, is the author of “Nature, Justice and Rights in Aristotle’s Politics.” He has published articles on Plato, Aristotle and other Greek philosophers in Philosophical Review, the Review of Metaphysics, Philosophical Quarterly and Archiv fur Geschichte der Philosophie.
His recent publications on classical philosophy include “Aristotle on Rationality in Action,” “Aristotle on Natural Law and Justice,” and “Plato on the Parts of the Soul.” He is also contributing the article “Aristotle’s Naturalism” for The Cambridge History of Greek and Roman Political Thought, “Aristotle’s Political Philosophy,” for the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and the article “Classical Political Thought” for The Encyclopedia for Classical Philosophy.
The talk is free and open to the public.
The UA philosophy department is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
