TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Student Government Association, UA Rotaract Club and the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa will sponsor a dinner on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 7-9 p.m. in the Smith Hall Gallery to benefit an AIDS clinic in South Africa.
The program will focus on Africa and the Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars Program. All proceeds from the event will go to the AIDS clinic.
The Ambassadorial Scholars program, one of Rotary International’s oldest and best-known educational initiatives, remains to be the largest privately funded international scholarship program in the world. Since 1947 some 37,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.
The speakers for the UA event will be Dr. James D. Mixson, UA assistant professor of history and 1992-1993 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar-Scotland, Christina Corley, 2006 UA graduate and 2006-2007 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar-Ghana and John David Connolley 2006 UA graduate and 2006-2007 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar-Kenya.
Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that is committed to promoting goodwill and peace through service. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary Clubs in 168 countries. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women age 18-30.
