The University of Alabama received a record $106 million in private gifts and pledges for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2005. The total marks the first time the University has raised more than $100 million in one year, and reflects a 40 percent increase over the previous year.
The University of Alabama’s collegiate license tag program raised almost $2 million for scholarships during the 2005 fiscal year. Funds raised through the statewide program are used for scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students.
Existing home sales fell again in November for the fifth consecutive month after peaking in June 2005, according to the Alabama Real Estate Research and Education Center at The University of Alabama. Home prices also have been trending down since August, suggesting the housing market slowed during the last half of the year.

The University of Alabama will host a regional workshop titled, “Engineering the Automotive Future,” on Jan. 24-25 at the Bryant Conference Center. Topics include fuel cells, the hydrogen economy, hybrid electric vehicles and advanced internal combustion engines. The event is co-sponsored by UA’s Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies.
Winners of the fifth annual “To Kill a Mockingbird” Essay Contest will be honored Friday, Jan. 27, with a luncheon, awards ceremony and reception/book signing with author Harper Lee at The University of Alabama.
