TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Incoming students at The University of Alabama will have a chance to celebrate the beginning of their college careers in an inspiring and solemn occasion during the Capstone Convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 23.
New students will meet on the steps of Gorgas Library at 7:30 p.m. then go to Woods Quad for the 8 p.m. event. Faculty Senate President Matthew Winston, professor of English, will lead the procession.
UA President Robert E. Witt, SGA President Mary Margaret Carroll and Meesha Emmett, president of the Student Leaders Council, will speak and join with all participants in reciting the Capstone Creed. The Capstone Creed was developed by the Student Leaders Council as a reflection of the core values that sustain members of the UA community.
The first 1,000 students who attend this year’s Capstone Convocation will receive free computer memory sticks (jump drives), provided by the Office of Information Technology, the Supply Store, and Enrollment Services and Programs.
Classes at UA begin Wednesday, Aug. 24.
