TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will host the fourth annual “Race and Place” conference, organized by the history department, March 10-12.
Some 20 presenters from across the nation and around the world will participate in the conference entitled “Borderlands and Boundaries.” The conference, which is open to the public, begins with two film screenings during the evening of March 10, with the first presentation scheduled for 9 a.m. March 11. All events will be held on campus within UA’s Alabama Institute for Manufacturing Excellence. The cost of the conference is $20.
Focusing on the study of race and ethnicity, broadly, the conference will examine a variety of configurations of power, difference and collective cultural identities across geographical and other boundaries.
Presenters are scheduled from Tuskegee University, Auburn, the University of Iowa, Texas A&M, University of Toronto, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, University of Utah, Abia State University, University of Washington, Emory, UA and elsewhere.
