UA Hosts Tim Wise, Anti-Racist Writer, Wednesday, March 16

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Coalition for Diversity and Inclusiveness is sponsoring a lecture by Tim Wise on Wednesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Forum.

Wise, a nationally known anti-racist writer and activist, will discuss “Profit and Loss: White Privilege and its Consequences for Racial Equity and Justice.” Wise will also be speaking at an anti-racism rally that will be held outside Ferguson Student Center from noon-2 p.m. the same day; the rally is sponsored by the student organization, Social Workers Association for Cultural Awareness (SWACA).

Wise lectures across the country about the need to combat institutional racism, gender bias and the growing gap between rich and poor in the U.S. He has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Tulane University where his anti-apartheid work received international attention and the thanks of Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
