Families of UA RISE Graduates Moved to Tuscaloosa for Program

Parents are always saying they would move heaven and earth to help their children. Well, in the case of Carolyn Prunkl, her parents literally moved their whole lives from Decatur, Ill. to Tuscaloosa so she could attend The University of Alabama’s RISE Program, the nationally renowned early intervention program for preschoolers with disabilities.

UA Student Awarded Alabama Student Engineer of the Year

The Alabama Society of Professional Engineers has selected University of Alabama College of Engineering student Thomas Saunders as the Student Engineer of the Year.

Students Participate in UA McNair Scholars Program

A recent reception was held on the University of Alabama campus honoring McNair Scholars. Carl McNair, a founding member of the McNair Foundation and brother of Dr. Ronald E. McNair, for whom the McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program (better known as the McNair Scholars Program) is named, was keynote speaker for the event.

A pair of former University of Alabama colleagues who discovered approximately 18 new species of fish during research for their recently published book “Fishes of Alabama” will join with the book’s illustrator in a signing at Harrison Galleries, July 30 from 4 to 6 p.m.

UA Students Participate in Co-op Jobs

The University of Alabama’s Cooperative Education Program is an academic program in which a student alternates periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. The program offers work experience to academic major or career interests of each student. It also enhances the student’s employment prospects after graduation.

Students, Teachers Participate in Chemistry Summer Program at UA

The 2004 Summer Undergraduate Research Participation (SURP) Program in the chemistry department at The University of Alabama gives students an individual project to work on for 10 weeks with UA faculty, staff and graduate students. The National Science Foundation and the UA chemistry department sponsor this program.
