TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama College of Engineering recently named Angelia Knight as the Capstone Engineering Society director.
Knight comes to the CES office from UA’s Engineering Career Services where she served as placement officer and director for five years. In her new position, Knight will serve as a link between the College’s students, alumni and friends, and work with the CES board of directors in developing increased financial support.
“The Capstone Engineering Society is such a vital part of the College of Engineering. I’m really looking forward to working with our alumni to plan activities across the state and throughout the nation,” Knight said.
“In Angelia’s recent career placement position, she worked closely with many of the College’s students immediately prior to their graduation and will be a good connection for them to get involved with the Capstone Engineering Society,” explained Dr. Timothy J. Greene, dean of the College of Engineering.
Knight received her bachelor’s in psychology and master’s in counselor education from Mississippi State University. Knight previously served as university counselor for Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo., and as director of counseling and career services at Mississippi University for Women.
The Capstone Engineering Society, established in 1973, is the alumni society of the College of Engineering. CES is dedicated to maintaining relationships and sharing resources with UA engineering alumni to ensure that the College is able to provide UA engineering and computer science students with a superior educational experience.
In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 95 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
