Alabama Public Radio Selected to Participate in National Online Auction

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — National Public Radio and Nancy Kruse and Partners have joined together to put on a two-week online auction to benefit public radio. Alabama Public Radio is one of 25 stations throughout the country that were chosen to participate in the auction which will take place Sept. 14-21.

“We were very fortunate to be able to get in on the ground floor of something we hope will be a success for the public radio system,” Roger Duvall, station manager for APR, said.

NPR hopes that this auction — its first national fund-raising attempt — will generate revenue of some $1 million. All proceeds will then be evenly split among the participating stations. This online auction, inspired by the success of Web sites like eBay, will run through the stations’ Web sites, and each station will contribute items for bidding. NPR and NK&P will donate big ticket items, which have yet to be announced.
