TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University Programs is hosting a debate on pornography featuring Ron Jeremy, the most recognizable name in the porn business, and Susan G. Cole, an outspoken activist in the anti-pornography movement since the 1970s.
The largely audience-led debate will focus on the ethics, responsibilities and ramifications of the pornography business and will be stimulated by an interactive question-and-answer segment involving the audience.
The debate will take place on Wednesday, March 17, in the Ferguson Center Plaza at 7 p.m.
Susan G. Cole is an author, playwright and senior entertainment and books editor at NOW Magazine, Canada’s premier news and entertainment weekly. An anti-porn activist since the late 1970s, Ms. Cole has written countless essays on violence against women. Her first book, “Pornography and the Sex Crisis,” is often required reading in many women’s studies courses across the country.
Ron Jeremy has been the most well-known figure in the pornography business since 1978. Holding a master’s degree in special education, Jeremy’s film career boasts more than 1,700 movies, 100 of which he directed. Jeremy has also been featured in mainstream media, including being involved in several reality television shows and working in mainstream movies, including “Boogie Nights” and “9 ½ Weeks.” Additionally, a critically acclaimed documentary was created in 2001 detailing his career, entitled “Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy.”
