Clements, Hamner Receive Top Awards from UA Alumni Association

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama National Alumni Association recently named the recipients of their top awards. The 2004 Distinguished Alumna Award winner is Janis Purdy Clements of Birmingham and the 2004 Distinguished Alumnus Award winner is Reginald Turner Hamner of Montgomery.

Clements, a native of Andalusia, earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1972 from UA; she and her husband, John Clements, live in Birmingham.

Hamner, a native of Tuscaloosa County, earned a bachelor’s degree in 1961 and a law degree in 1965 from UA. He and his wife, Anne Hamner, live in Montgomery and have two sons, Patrick and Christian.

Selection for the Distinguished Alumni Award is based on loyalty and service to the University and the National Alumni Association, character and personal life, professional achievement or success in chosen endeavor, and community service on a local and/or state or national level.
