UA to Host High School Latin Day

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama classics program will be hosting the second annual Latin Day for Alabama high school students on Friday, Feb. 20, in the Ferguson Center.

Latin Day is organized by UA professors and students and is open to all high school students who are currently taking Latin. Registration for the event is available through high school Latin clubs and costs $8. The fee includes contests, exhibits, entertainment and prizes all focused on the Latin language, ancient Roman history and culture.

Latin Day activities include a mythology face-off competition, a Roman history scholars bowl, singing pop songs in Latin, reciting Latin poetry, acting in skits, exhibiting promotional posters, drawings, cartoons and crafts, as well as a Roman fashion show at 12:30 p.m.

This year, the University is expecting some 500 students to attend Latin Day.
