Run for the Roses 5K Race Set for March 6 at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy), the volunteer used motor oil recycling program for the state of Alabama, is inviting the public to participate in the seventh annual “Run for the Roses” 5K race at The University of Alabama on March 6.

The certified race begins at 8:30 a.m. and will be followed by the Rosebud one-mile fun run, an awards ceremony and door prizes. The cost is $12 before March 4 and $15 on the day of the race. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the UA Riverside Amphitheater on race day. The cost for the Rosebud one-mile fun run is $5.

Proceeds from the race will help Project R.O.S.E. increase awareness and provide collection tanks for recycling used motor oil in Alabama. Project R.O.S.E. is headquartered in the chemical engineering department in UA’s College of Engineering and is funded by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs Science, Technology and Energy Division.

In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 90 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
