Tennessee Businessman Gives $100,000 to UA’s Crimson Tradition Fund

Robert Blake, owner of financial company Blake Enterprises, in Memphis, donated $100,000 to the Crimson Tradition Fund, a $100 million fundraising campaign for University of Alabama athletic facility improvements.

University of Alabama American Studies assistant professor and director of the African-American Studies program, Dr. Amilcar Shabazz, has recently published a new book, “Advancing Democracy: African Americans and the Struggle for Access and Equity in Higher Education in Texas” (University of North Carolina Press, 2004).

UA Author’s Book Recreates the Heart of Poetry

“Elegies & Vacations,” a new book of poetry by Dr. Hank Lazer, has been described as an ambitious attempt to “recreate the heart of poetry itself.” This collection of poems explores the relationships of the living and the dead. The book contains 11 poems, each different from the next, addressing emotionally charged issues ranging from the loss of a beloved family member to the sometimes trying ritual of the family vacation.

UA Golden Key Honour Society Receives Grant

The University of Alabama chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society was recently awarded a “Make a Difference Day” grant of $500 to go toward school supplies for the West Alabama Head Start program. The money was given by the society’s international chapter.
