UA Student Honors Organization to Provide Free Tax Assistance

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dozens of students in a University of Alabama honors organization will be offering free income tax filing assistance to the public three days per week beginning Feb. 3.

Students in the UA chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, trained in the AARP Tax-Aide Program, will staff tables in UA’s Ferguson Center, room 305, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., from Feb. 3-April 15. Students will not be available the week of March 29.

Thirty-five student volunteers are involved in the project designed to assist other students, UA staff and members of the community with tax assistance, including standard and electronic filing.

In addition to the NSCS and AARP, the services are sponsored by Ferguson Center and UA’s Healthy Campus 2010 Initiative.
