UA Staff Member Receives National Advising Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Susan Halliday, coordinator of special events and endowment accounts in The University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences, was awarded the Mortar Board Excellence in Advising Award at the 2003 National Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Halliday was nominated by UA 2002-2003 chapter members and chosen for exemplifying the ideals of Mortar Board: scholarship, leadership and service. Ten Mortar Board advisers from across the United States were recognized with the award this year.

Mortar Board is a national senior honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the organization has grown from the four founding chapters to 211 chapters and more than 220,000 initiated members across the nation. Mortar Board is unique among honor societies and honoraries because it goes beyond merely recognizing outstanding students. Member of each Mortar Board chapter spend their senior year working together to give back to their communities, the nation and the world through the areas of scholarship, leadership and service.
