UA Women’s Resource Center Presents ‘Crimes Against Nature’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Women’s Resource Center will present “Crimes Against Nature” on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. in the Ferguson Center Theatre. The show, also sponsored by the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, Men Against Violence, Students for Gender Justice and the Healthy Campus Initiative, is part of Character Counts week at UA. Admission to the show is free and open to the public.

“Crimes Against Nature” is a humorous and compelling one man show written and performed by Dr. Christopher Kilmartin. This original solo performance piece cleverly points out the absurdities and contradictions of masculinity by promoting an awareness of the demands of masculinity and provides a sense that one can choose whether or not to agree to these demands. Never preachy, Kilmartin pokes fun at the experiences of his adolescence and young manhood.

Kilmartin is an associate professor of psychology at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va., a counseling psychologist, and an expert on men’s issues. Kilmartin is the author of “The Masculine Self,” a comprehensive book about the psychology of men. He has also been a stand-up comedian since 1985.
