Marr’s Field Journal to Hold Art Show

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Marr’s Field Journal will host its first art show entitled, “Re Generation: Telling Our Stories Through Art” Nov. 6-11 at the Kentuck Museum in Northport.

The submitted art work featured in the show is also in consideration for publishing within the pages of the journal. Art show guests will have a chance to vote for their favorite piece. The works receiving the most votes will be printed in the fall 2003 MFJ issue. The entry that receives the highest overall votes will have the opportunity to be featured on the cover of the fall issue.

The “Re Generation” art show coincides with the Kentuck Museum’s Thursday Art Night. There will be an opening night reception Thursday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. The reception, as well as the viewing of the collection is free and open to the public.

Marr’s Field Journal is known for publishing great pieces of fiction, but not everyone is aware that we publish art and photography,” said Bonita Weaver, editor of Marr’s Field Journal. “This art show is designed to expose young, aspiring artists to the process of displaying their art to the public. Many undergraduate students are not able to show due to the seniority given to graduate students. This art show gives these students a chance to share their gift and talent.”

Marr’s Field Journal is the University’s undergraduate literary journal. The journal was created in 1989 as a forum for undergraduate students to publish their poetry, prose, art, and photography. The journal accepts submissions from students and publishes twice in the academic year (once each semester). Marr’s Field Journal won a 2002 gold medal at the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Publication Competition, heralding the journal as one of the best collegiate literary publications in the nation.
