TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A group of students from The University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences have devoted their spare time to work in school mentoring programs in the Tuscaloosa community.
Some 79 students worked in after-school programs or they shadowed a parent/community education class. The project served as a learning experience to the students, all human development majors.
One component of the programs was for the students to communicate with parents and children on health issues and to incorporate physical fitness and dietary concerns into their lives.
The students were assisting in programs at Alberta Elementary, Holt Elementary, Matthews Elementary and Collins-Riverside Elementary schools.
