TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Leigh Holden, MFA candidate in the Book Arts at The University of Alabama, will give a talk followed by a reception on Tuesday, March 25, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the W.S. Hoole Special Collections Library. The library is on the second floor of Mary Harmon Bryant Hall.
Much of Holden’s research relates to Asian papers and Asian methods of hand papermaking. In addition to his work at UA, he spent two years at the University of Iowa’s Hand Papermaking Research and Production Facility. He is currently researching the cultivation of Alabama kozo (paper mulberry) and has established a research garden on the UA campus as part of the MFA program in the Book Arts.
Holden works closely with Glenn House, professor emeritus for the UA Book Arts Program and author of “The Story of Alabama Kozo,” and “An Alabama Kozo Primer.” House started his research with Alabama kozo in the early 1980s and continues to be a vociferous advocate for further use, research and experimentation with this locally available fiber.
