UA Golden Key Honor Society Receives International Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama chapter of Golden Key International Honor Society was presented the Founder’s Award, the organization’s most prestigious chapter award, at the Golden Key International Convention held recently in Atlanta.

Lynn Hamric, administrative assistant in the UA department of mechanical engineering, serves as the UA chapter adviser. She and student representatives from the chapter accepted the award at the convention, “Silver and Gold: 25 Years with Golden Key,” in front of delegates from around the world.

This premier award is presented to the chapter that has fully embodied the Society’s founding principles of scholarship, service, recognition and achievement in the past year. In addition, the chapter must be exceptional in the areas of communication, publicity, meeting management, leadership and in local, regional and international activities.

The UA chapter completed over 4,000 hours of community service during the past year. Their activities included joining with a sister chapter in Canada to collect teddy bears for “Bears to the Rescue,” cleaning up the University’s pond, holding a fundraiser for the Elizabeth Glasier Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and participating in the Terry Fox Run. The chapter has also won three consecutive Key Chapter Awards.
