Nurses Association to Award UA’s VanderMeer Outstanding District President Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama State Nurses Association will present Dr. Jeanette VanderMeer, assistant professor in The University of Alabama’s Capstone College of Nursing, with its Outstanding District/District President Award during the group’s Sept. 12 convention at the Kellogg Conference Center in Tuskegee.

The award is presented to the district president who has demonstrated outstanding performance in district activities including membership growth, workshops sponsored, support of continuing education opportunities and overall activities of the district’s members, according to the association.

VanderMeer has served as president of District II for the past three years. District II includes seven west Alabama counties, Tuscaloosa, Greene, Pickens, Hale, Bibb, Fayette, and Lamar. In the nomination form, VanderMeer was cited for her overall leadership abilities, mentoring skills related to new members and her community activities.

VanderMeer has taught at the UA Capstone College of Nursing for 18 years.

The purposes of the Alabama State Nurses Association are to foster high standards of nursing, to promote the professional and educational advancement of nurses, and to promote the welfare of nurses to the end that all people may have better health care.
