UA Students Receive Scholarships to Study Abroad

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama student Courtney Dreibelbis of Mobile has been selected as the recipient of a 2002-2003 Gilman International Scholarship.

This program, in its second year, awarded 179 scholarships nationwide this year to deserving students for international study.

Dreibelbis will participate in an overseas study program as an exchange student to Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten in Weingarten, Germany. At UA, she is a German major and will be a junior for the 2002-2003 academic year. Dreibelbis is the only recipient of the scholarship in the state.

University of Alabama student Anne Donaldson of Richmond, Ky., a junior and philosophy major, received a Gilman Scholarship to study abroad during the 2002 spring semester. She was also the only student to receive this award in the state at the time. She studied at the University of Wales-Aberystwyth.

Selection for a Gilman International Scholarship is based on the student’s academic performance, statement of purpose, follow-up on the project and potential impact of experience. Diversity of participants, field of study and country selection is also considered. Preference is given to students who have not previously studied abroad.
