TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama junior Betsy Kervin of Andalusia has been elected vice president for communication of the National Leadership Council of The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).
The National Leadership Council is the student governing body of the NSCS, a highly selective, national, nonprofit honors organization. Founded in 1994, NSCS recognizes first- and second-year undergraduate students who excel academically.
“NSCS provides the opportunity for students like Betsy to be recognized for their outstanding academic accomplishments early in their college experience and then go on to participate in community service and leadership activities,” said Steve Loflin, NSCS executive director. “Betsy will serve as a leader to other high achieving college students looking to develop leadership skills and a true sense of civic responsibility.”
The Society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and to perform service. Students are invited to join NSCS based on academic performance early in their college experience but membership in the Society is for life. NSCS currently has 175 active chapters and more than 200,000 lifetime members.
