Visiting Professor to Give Lecture on Urbanization and Changing Southern Diet

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Gary Green, professor emeriti from the geography department at the University of North Alabama, will give a lecture on “Urbanization, Wealth and Women at Work: The Changing Southern Diet” at The University of Alabama on Friday, April 19, at 1 p.m. in 214 Farrah Hall.

Green’s talk is part of the UA Student Association of Geographers 2001-2002 Speakers’ Series. After the lecture, Green will answer questions from the audience.

Green notes that change in the Southern diet dates back to the days of the sharecropper farmer. The influence and impact of urbanization, the changing role of females, and increased levels of affluence and educational attainment have contributed to the demise of the South’s distinctive regional diet.
