International Businessman will Speak to UA Honors Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Hiroshi Honda will be speaking to community leaders and students at The University of Alabama on the topic of “Managing Cultural Differences Between East and West” on Friday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. in Maxwell Hall.

Honda will be the first speaker in the UA Honors Lecture Series, said Dr. Cathy Randall, director of the UA Honors Program.

Honda’s corporate office and home are in Tuscaloosa’s Sister City of Narashino City, Japan, and he is a business, industrial and educational leader in Japan as well as internationally.

He holds a doctorate in offshore engineering from Kyoto University, a master’s degree in engineering mechanics from Penn State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Kyoto University in mechanical engineering.

Honda has served as chairman for the research planning committee of Technology and Society Division for the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, chairman of research on Industry Frontiers of Japan, and is a visiting professor for the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Technology. In 1999, he established Honda International Ltd.

He has written numerous books and publications including Working In Japan and a wide array of research publications in management and international disciplines. He speaks on a regular basis around the world and among his topics is “Successfully Managing The Risk and Development of Your Business and Technology in the Global Economy.”
