Counseling Clinic to be Held at Georgia State University Sept. 22

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama School of Law’s Pension Counseling Clinic and the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration branch of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Atlanta’s Regional Office will provide free pension counseling in Atlanta on Saturday, Sept. 22.

The pension clinic will be held at Georgia State University, which is accessible by car or public transportation.

The clinic will provide counseling to workers and retirees who are experiencing problems or have questions concerning their retirement plans, including pension plans, 401(k) plans, retirement programs for governmental employees, and other types of plans.

The clinic will be able to counsel people who have been denied benefits, including survivor benefits; who want help obtaining information about their pension plan, including pension plans of former employers; who have questions concerning their rights to share in their spouse or former spouse’s pension; who want help understanding changes being made to their pension plan; who want help in locating a pension plan of a former employer, including employers who have moved or are no longer in business; who are concerned that someone may be violating federal laws designed to protect employee pensions; or who have questions about pension benefits.

The clinic will include a representative of the Department of Labor and law students and faculty from The University of Alabama Pension Counseling Clinic, which is supported in part by a grant from the United States Administration on Aging.

The clinic will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. EDT in Rooms 141 and 142 of Georgia State’s Urban Life Building, which is located at 140 Decatur Street, across the street from the Georgia State MARTA stop.

However, the clinic will also be open to walk-in attendees. Information will be provided on a personal and confidential basis.
