TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — For the third consecutive year, The University of Alabama School of Law has been ranked among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s new 2002 listing of the “Best Graduate Schools.”

UA’s School of Law, ranked 46th this year, was listed among the top 50 law schools for the first time two years ago. The school broke into the top 50 with a 50th place ranking in the 2000 edition of “Best Graduate Schools” and moved up to 46th in the 2001 edition.

“The law faculty finds it immensely gratifying to receive this national recognition for the high level of education we provide,” said Ken Randall, dean of the UA School of Law.

“This recognition is a significant tribute to our faculty, staff, students and alumni as we continue to pursue our goal of keeping top Alabama students in state for their legal education. As the state’s only public law school, our aim is to graduate the next generation of leading lawyers, judges and statespeople for Alabama. The University of Alabama School of Law established a strategic plan for academic excellence, and I believe that this ranking demonstrates that our goals have been met. Our only wish is that the level of state financial support would improve. I would like to see just how good we could be with better funding,” Randall said.

The U.S. News rankings report that 99 percent of UA School of Law graduates were employed within a few months after graduation. UA law graduates hold positions with law firms, businesses, government and other organizations throughout Alabama, the Southeast and the nation. The bar passage rate for UA Law School graduates is well above the state average.
