TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The department of physics and astronomy at The University of Alabama will host a public viewing of a crescent moon on Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m.
Participants will have the opportunity to view the moon through the department’s 10-inch refracting telescope located within the dome atop UA’s Gallalee Hall. Dr. Gene Byrd, professor of astronomy, will also deliver a lecture titled “Antebellum Astronomy in Alabama and Mississippi” in Gallalee, room 227. The event is free and open to the public.
Gallalee Hall is located on the UA campus near the intersection of Hackberry Lane and University Boulevard. In case of inclement or cloudy weather, the viewing will be cancelled. However, the lecture by Byrd will take place as scheduled. Call the department of physics and astronomy for up-to-date information at 205/348-5050.
