TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The eighth annual Beat Auburn/Beat Hunger food drive and collection contest between The University of Alabama and Auburn University will run through Nov. 15 at 5 p.m., with donations of canned and non-perishable food being accepted at the West Alabama Food Bank.
The food collection drive is sponsored by the UA Community Service Center and the West Alabama Food Bank. The goal this year is to collect 40,000 pounds of food, more than four tons above last year’s total of 31,639 pounds that won the competition. The West Alabama Food Bank relies upon support of the University and the Tuscaloosa community to stock its warehouse in an effort to feed needs families during the holiday season.
Community members interested in donating to Beat Auburn/Beat Hunger should contact the UA Community Service Center to be referred to a University student organization that would accept their donations. For more information, contact Joshua Burcham at the UA Community Service Center, 355 Ferguson Center, 205/348-2865.
